Statement from Andrea Miller, President, NARAL Pro-Choice New York

“NARAL Pro-Choice New York applauds the Assembly for passing the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act [A.8135], which will make important new strides in expanding access to the full range of birth control options and in lowering rates of unintended pregnancy in New York state. The CCCA improves access to contraceptive methods for both women and men, recognizing their right to determine when and whether to have children.

“The CCCA’s passage adds one more to the surge of proactive reproductive health and rights bills being passed in state legislatures across the country. In 2015, 76 such bills passed in 31 states, including New York. The Assembly’s eagerness to pass this legislation speaks to the nationwide trend in favor of women’s reproductive and sexual health, rights, dignity, and autonomy.

“The Assembly continues to rise to the needs and wishes of New York women and families. We thank Assembly member Kevin Cahill for his leadership sponsoring this bill and the Assembly for reaffirming its commitment to improving women’s health and rights. NARAL Pro-Choice New York calls on the Senate to follow the Assembly’s example in prioritizing New Yorkers’ reproductive health care needs.”
