Advancing Birth Justice
NIRH believes in the right of people who can become pregnant to choose when and whether to become parents, and the right of every person to parent their children with dignity and in safety. We support policies that increase equitable access to doula care, address maternal mortality, and provide insurance coverage to pregnant and parenting people.
2022 In Review
Here at NIRH, we've known that Roe was always the floor and that the most meaningful action to to protect and expand reproductive freedom, ensuring access to reproductive health care – including abortion. And in 2022, we made some incredible strides to make an impact it cities and states across the country.
Funding New York’s Abortion Care and Infrastructure
In 2022, NIRH teamed up with New York Governor Kathy Hochul to create a $35M investment to directly support New York abortion providers in anticipation of Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. Andrea Miller, President of NIRH, called this initiative a “down payment” on the necessary response to Roe being overturned.

Funding Abortion in Portland, OR
NIRH partnered with Pro-Choice Oregon and the Northwest Abortion Access Fund (NWAAF) in 2021 to expand access to abortion by addressing a primary barrier to care: cost. anks to this advocacy work, on September 15, 2021, the Portland City Council voted to allocate $200,000 to the Northwest Abortion Access Fund (NWAAF) in order to provide needed support and resources to those trying to access abortion care.
