Andrea Miller, president of the National Institute for Reproductive Health and NIRH Action Fund, issued the following statement:
“President Biden’s anticipated nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court is a historic and thrilling bright spot for our nation. Judge Jackson has a rich and celebrated career full of remarkable achievements. Her exemplary background and life-long dedication to public service and equal justice are both welcome – and essential – in our next Justice. The nomination of a Black woman to the Supreme Court is long overdue, and we are grateful to see this watershed moment animated by Judge Jackson.
We urge the Senate to make a swift confirmation of Judge Jackson, especially as cases that implicate our most fundamental freedoms will continue to come before the High Court. As many people across this country face the continued erosion of their most basic rights – including the right to abortion – the confirmation of Judge Brown is urgently needed.”

The National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) is an advocacy group that works directly with state and local reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations and allied groups to protect and advance access to reproductive healthcare. For more than 40 years, NIRH has been partnering with communities to build coalitions, launch campaigns, and successfully advocate for policy change. NIRH’s strategy is to go on the offensive and focus on communities where change is needed, so the fabric of reproductive freedom becomes harder to tear apart.
