Upon the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) President Andrea Miller released the following statement:

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg had a profound impact on our nation and our lives. Her passing is a devastating loss.

Justice Ginsburg was a lifelong visionary who fought for six decades to expand equality under the law. From her pioneering career as a young lawyer through to her 27 years on the Supreme Court, she was instrumental in advancing women’s rights, reproductive rights, immigrants’ rights, civil rights, health care access, democracy, and so much more. She put our nation on a path toward greater justice and equality.

Tonight, we are a nation in mourning, and our hearts go out to Justice Ginsburg’s family and loved ones.

Her parting words were, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.” Until the very end, she never stopped fighting. And neither will we. Tonight, we mourn her passing. Tomorrow, we honor her legacy by committing to fight like hell to achieve the justice, equality, and compassion that she embodied.”

The National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) is an advocacy group that works directly with state and local reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations and allied groups to protect and advance access to reproductive healthcare. Our strategy is to go on the offensive to pass laws that safeguard reproductive freedom. NIRH partners with communities to build coalitions, launch campaigns, and successfully advocate for policy change, so the fabric of reproductive freedom is harder to tear apart.
