By a vote of 20-1, St. Louis Board of Aldermen Vote Call on Missouri and the Federal Government to Allow Abortion Care Coverage in Public & Private Insurance
ST LOUIS, MO – Andrea Miller, President of the National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH), released the following statement today praising the St Louis Board of Aldermen following passage of a resolution calling for the end of insurance bans on abortion coverage. The resolution, passed by a vote of 20-1, makes St. Louis the 18th locality nationwide calling for an end to the prohibition on insurance coverage for abortion services.
“Since the Hyde Amendment was passed more than four decades ago, more than one million women nationwide have been cut off from safe, affordable abortion services. St. Louis’ resolution is recognition of that fact that women continue to face unfair and unjust obstacles to basic reproductive care,” said NIRH President Andrea Miller. “I commend St. Louis for joining a growing chorus of municipalities across the country calling for greater access to reproductive health care and look forward to replicating it in states and cities across the country.”
