Statement from Andrea Miller, President, NARAL Pro-Choice New York

“NARAL Pro-Choice New York applauds Gov. Cuomo for his continued commitment to women’s equality and financial stability. During today’s State of the State address, Gov. Cuomo proposed a plan for 12 weeks of paid family leave to care for a new child, as well as a $15 minimum wage.

“Gov. Cuomo recognizes that New Yorkers deserve to be treated with respect in all aspects of their lives, including in the workplace and in their reproductive decisions. Women have the right to determine when and whether to bear children and to be paid enough to support any children they choose to have, including paid leave that enables financial stability.

“NARAL Pro-Choice New York acknowledges the governor for prioritizing women and families, and we look forward to supporting these proposals, as well as the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act, updating New York’s state law to ensure access to abortion, and other commonsense proposals to improve women’s health, lives, and safety.”
