National Institute for Reproductive Health Statement on Indictment of Southern Poverty Law Center
NEW YORK – Statement from Christian LoBue, National Institute for Reproductive Health President, on the indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center:
“The Trump Administration’s retaliation against civil rights organizations undermines the very infrastructure that protects our democracy.
“Their latest attack is on Southern Poverty Law Center, which works to confront and dismantle racist policies and practices—including those that hurt pregnant people who have been incarcerated or otherwise criminalized. Their efforts strengthen our nation and advance true bodily autonomy.
“We cannot accept a reality where efforts to end systemic racism are treated as threats rather than necessities. Efforts to silence or punish civil rights organizations reveal a profound resistance to equity, truth, and democratic participation.
“NIRH works alongside the communities most impacted by harmful and discriminatory policies to protect and advance our freedoms, and we will oppose every attempt to undermine the organizations and leaders working to do the same.”
