New York – After an excruciating four years in which the harms to reproductive freedom and marginalized communities were exponentially exacerbated, the National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) Action Fund is thrilled to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their election victory.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled and relieved at the outcome of the Presidential election, which we should read as a referendum on the Trump-Pence administration’s attacks on our basic rights and freedoms. The margin of victory wasn’t as large as we’d hoped, but nonetheless, that administration’s days are now numbered,” said Andrea Miller, president of the NIRH Action Fund. “Securing reproductive freedom, including access to abortion, means we need victories at every level — starting with the President andVice President, on down through the Senate and state legislatures. We continue to watch the outcome of state level races, knowing that state legislatures have the power to determine our access to reproductive health care, including abortion care.

NIRH Action Fund has been closely monitoring the outcome of races at the state level, knowing that state legislatures have the power to determine our access to reproductive health care, including abortion care. The NIRH Action Fund works directly to elect state level lawmakers who run, win, and govern on a platform that advances reproductive health, rights, and justice.

“Today we join millions of people across the country and the world in exhaling a huge sigh of relief that we have ousted this President,” Miller said. “Tomorrow, we get to work redoubling our efforts to strengthen strongholds for reproductive freedom and move the needle to pass proactive policy in state legislatures everywhere that is possible.”

The National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund (NIRH Action Fund) fights to protect and advance access to reproductive health care and build political power for reproductive freedom. It works hand-in-hand with reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations in states and cities across the country to build coalitions, launch campaigns, change policy, and elect candidates who stand up for everyone’s right to control their reproductive lives. Its strategy is to go on the offensive to pass laws that safeguard reproductive freedom. They work in the communities where change is needed, so the fabric of reproductive freedom becomes harder to tear apart.
