NIRH Applauds South Carolina Supreme Court Decision Striking Down Six-Week Abortion Ban

Following the State Supreme Court’s Ruling that Abortion is Protected Under State Constitution, NIRH Released the Below Statement:

“We are thrilled that the South Carolina Supreme Court’s decision has struck down the state’s dangerous six-week abortion ban and affirmed the right to abortion,” said Andrea Miller, President of National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) and NIRH Action Fund. “This decision will make a difference in the lives of millions of South Carolinians. This is a huge step forward for not only the state but the region, and we also urge legislators to double down on the most important implication of this decision: access to care. Even with constitutional protections in place, equitable access to abortion must be the top priority for state and local lawmakers as we continue to advance reproductive freedom this session.”

###The National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) is an advocacy group that works directly with state and local reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations to protect and advance equitable access to reproductive health care. Our strategy is to go on the offensive to pass laws that safeguard reproductive freedom. NIRH partners with communities to build coalitions, launch campaigns, and successfully advocate for policy change, so the fabric of reproductive freedom is harder to tear apart.
