Statement by National Institute for Reproductive Health President Andrea Miller

“The National Institute for Reproductive Health condemns President Trump’s extreme choice of Charmaine Yoest, former president of anti-abortion group Americans United for Life, to serve as the Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services. Someone who opposes abortion and contraception, along with other forms of reproductive health care, has no business shaping policy or handling communications for our nation’s health department.

“As the Trump administration fills Washington with anti-choice leadership, the National Institute for Reproductive Health remains vigilant at the state and local level, working with partner organizations to craft and introduce pro-active legislation to ensure that abortion remains safe, legal, affordable, and accessible in women’s communities without shame or pressure. Access to reproductive health care, including abortion, is a right, not a privilege – the National Institute for Reproductive Health will never stop standing up to politicians who disagree.”

The National Institute for Reproductive Health works across the country to increase access to reproductive health care by changing public policy, galvanizing public support, and normalizing women’s decisions to have abortions and use contraception.
