NIRH Denounces Governor Ron Desantis And Florida Legislature For New Abortion Ban

In Response to Florida Governor Ron Desantis Signing a 6-Week Abortion Ban into Law, NIRH Released The Below Statement:

“During a time of uncertainty for abortion access and amid constant assaults against our basic bodily autonomy, Florida lawmakers have passed a six-week abortion ban that is merciless and unjust. NIRH strongly condemns this latest dangerous and politically charged attack against abortion care,” said Andrea Miller, President of National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) and NIRH Action Fund. “If this ban goes into effect, it will cause irreparable harm for millions of people seeking abortion care in Florida, and create a public health crisis in the state.

I want to stress, however, that this ban is not in immediate effect, and right now abortion remains legal in Florida up to 15 weeks of pregnancy. This new ban would take effect 30 days after a pending decision of out of the Florida Supreme Court regarding the state constitution. NIRH urges municipalities across the state to enact local policies to protect and expand access to all forms of reproductive health care.”
