New York, NY – The National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH), released the following statement today regarding sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

“The sexual assault allegation against Brett Kavanaugh is a disturbing extension of his anti-woman ideology, which is evident throughout the records of his work. His demonstrated hostility towards women’s autonomy and safety is a testament to the grave risk posed by appointing him to the Supreme Court.

“Sexual assault and restricting reproductive rights have the same root cause: the desire to control women and their bodies, which are in direct opposition to the values and work of NIRH. Our mission to advance reproductive freedom is based on trusting women, always.

“We support survivors’ rights to privacy and confidentiality, and vehemently oppose attempts to smear a survivor’s credibility or threaten their safety. We believe the survivors of sexual assault and harassment and support survivors’ decisions regarding how and when to tell their stories.

“NIRH considers Brett Kavanaugh unfit for an appointment to the Supreme Court, and calls on him to withdraw his nomination.”
