NIRH is continuing its partnership with ACCESS Reproductive Justice (RJ) and DuPont Clinic to advocate for an increase in Medi-Cal (state Medicaid) reimbursement rates for later abortion care. Ensuring access to later abortion is more critical than ever in the post-Dobbs landscape, as additional hurdles are forcing patients to access care later in their pregnancy. Few providers in California offer this care, which may be related to very low reimbursement for services that are complex. Last year, with NIRH’s support, ACCESS RJ and DuPont Clinic developed materials for government officials to describe the urgent need to increase Medi-Cal reimbursement rates. NIRH will enter the second phase of this project with ACCESS RJ and the DuPont Clinic to work with California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the California Assembly to increase Medi-Cal reimbursement for later abortions and to provide messaging support.
