In the United States, only three providers perform abortions at or beyond 28 weeks of gestation. NIRH is working with ACCESS Reproductive Justice and DuPont Clinic to increase Medicaid reimbursements for third trimester abortions in California. Medi-Cal’s reimbursement covers about five percent of the typical amount billed for these services, forcing abortion seekers to cover any remaining costs. Situated in an “access” state, ACCESS RJ and DuPont Clinic recognize the importance of pushing for proactive policy to ensure all trimester care for all. Through an education and advocacy campaign, NIRH will provide communications expertise, strategic guidance, and advocacy resources to achieve this goal.
