In 2017, NIRH worked with Consumers for Affordable Health Care (CAHC) to lead implementation of a new limited family planning benefit (LFPB) for MaineCare, which expands access to family planning care for low-income Mainers, by engaging in outreach, direct application assistance, and ongoing advocacy. CAHC educated 7,500 Mainers and trained 50 enrollment professionals to help people apply for LFPB, and worked with Maine Equal Justice Partners to resolve three systemic issues and barriers that prevented people from accessing the benefit.
