NIRH is partnering with Perinatal Health Equity Initiative (PHEI) to identify and advance community-based solutions to the disproportionally high maternal morbidity rates impacting Black birthing people and babies in New Jersey. PHEI will begin convening impacted Black mamas and parents, perinatal care providers, organizers, and other stakeholders to lead the creation, advancement, and implementation of a state-based Black birth justice agenda. In addition, PHEI will advocate for the state to renew its collection of demographic maternal health data and listen to directly impacted Black mamas and their perinatal health workers when creating policy, planning procedures to ensure implementation, and evaluating success moving forward. As PHEI launches their new coalition, NIRH will offer policy training, communications support, and campaign guidance to the coalition and grassroots supporters in service of their agenda.
