In 2010, NIRH partnered with the Urban League of Portland to address the high rates of low birth weight and infant mortality in the African-American community. Engaging with local elected officials was critical in achieving city-level buy-in to address these issues. The Urban League created and led a policymaker roundtable to educate city officials, and presented policy recommendations based on best practices.
