In 2015, the National Institute supported Western States Center to expand its We are BRAVE program by engaging six organizations as partners in a campaign to enact proactive reproductive health care legislation in Oregon. The We are BRAVE program engaged people-of-color-led organizations new to reproductive justice by using an intersectional lens that incorporated racial, gender, and economic justice. Western States Center worked with BRAVE partners and the Pro-Choice Coalition of Oregon during the 2015 legislative session to advocate for expanded access to reproductive health care, including abortion, for communities currently excluded from coverage, including immigrant and undocumented women, laying the groundwork for greater health equity.
