NIRH partnered with the Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania (FHCCP) in 2017 to advocate for comprehensive, LGBTQ-affirming sexuality education. FHCCP collaborated with the LGBT Center of Central Pennsylvania to engage LGBT youth as advocates for sexuality education in their communities. Nearly 130 young people received comprehensive sex education and advocacy training, developing knowledge, skills, and self-confidence to meet with school superintendents throughout their region to advocate directly for the importance of implementing LGBT-inclusive sexuality education in their schools. The culmination of this work was the presentation by a group of young leaders on this topic at the annual Pennsylvania Superintendents’ Association on their need for comprehensive sexuality education as LGBT youth.
