Black Doula Project

The Black Doula Project, a fund that subsidizes doula costs for Black families in the Baltimore and D.C. area, was founded by two Black women doulas with the objective of improving maternal health education by and for pregnant Black people.

NIRH supported The Black Doula Project in developing and launching an informative series on the important roles doulas play in Black birthing experiences. In 2023, Black Doula Project will continue engaging doulas, families, and other stakeholders in the fight to eradicate Black maternal and infant mortality disparities to educate more people about the importance of Black cultural birthing practices. NIRH will support them in the creation and launch of additional workshops aimed at spreading awareness about doulas and how to access them.
