Cobalt Advocates

Cobalt (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado) is a leading advocacy group in Colorado that fights for reproductive health, rights and justice. In 2019, NIRH worked with Cobalt and COLOR to advance policies that would ensure that all Coloradans, including young people, low-income communities, people of color, public service employees, immigrants, and refugees are able to access the full range of reproductive health care services they need, including contraception and abortion. Both organizations built strong relationships with the Governor’s office as well as other key state-level stakeholders, opening doors to create multi-year strategies to pass bold, proactive, protective reproductive health and rights legislation. With NIRH’s support, organizations in Colorado were galvanized by Cobalt and COLOR to create the CARE Act (Colorado Access to Reproductive (Health) Equity Act) Coalition. Building new relationships with other organizations has helped to create awareness in communities around Colorado. This project built on NIRH’s partnership with COLOR and Cobalt in 2018, which led to the development and implementation of a multi-pronged approach to galvanizing support for their agenda that incorporated advocacy, messaging, and field efforts. This project involved collaboration with SiX in 2018 and in 2019.

Cobalt is also part of a cohort of organizations in Colorado on a long-term initiative to develop and advance an abortion rights vision, engage a new and broad base of supporters, and reduce shame and stigma by publicly promoting the affirmative value of abortion.
