Combating Misinformation, Advancing Proactive Policies in Illinois

Issues:
Expanding Abortion Access

2019 was a landmark year in proactive legislation that safeguards the right and access to abortion. In Illinois, lawmakers passed the Reproductive Health Act (IL S 25), which protects access to comprehensive reproductive health care, including abortion. Specifically, the Reproductive Health Act recognizes that each person has a fundamental right to make decisions about reproductive health care, including abortion, and treats abortion like all other health care, not as a crime. The Reproductive Health Act builds on the successful passage of HB40 in Illinois in 2017.

NIRH launched a digital campaign in Illinois to celebrate this groundbreaking legislation and to guard against potential backlash by promoting accurate information about the laws.

After the passage of the Reproductive Health Act, NIRH launched a campaign in Illinois in partnership with the Chicago Abortion Fund. Facebook, Twitter and Search ads provided accurate information and celebrated the passage of the new law. NIRH also ran a full-page print ad in Chicago Daily Herald thanking legislators for passing the bill.
